Technology Tools

My first impressions of the tools that I will be using during this module are good. I look forward to doing more blogging as I am getting used to writing blogs as the week goes on and hopefully I will become even better and more experienced in time.

I haven't really used the other tools as much apart from image editing I have a small bit of experience doing that and I will enjoy learning more as I continue with the course.

The other tools are interesting to me cause I have never had to use them before all that much so I look forward using them more and having new skills that I hadn't had before.

This online environment is like nothing I have experienced so far. I was a bit apprehensive at the start because it was so different to anything I have done before but I do think it will be good for me and will help me become more familiar with this online environment.

Assignments and Extra Credits

My first impressions of the assignments for this module are really good and surprising. It is unlike any other module I have had the assignments are completely different then anything I have had to do before and I am looking forward to expanding my skillset.

I am looking forward to doing more blogging and becoming more comfortable with this platform and I am excited about the project because it is something I have never done before.

I really like that there are extra credit options available and that they are all doable to and extent. The extra credit option that stood out as something I would be interested in more so then the others would be the growth mindset, I find growth mindset very interesting and something that I would like to read more into.

Growth Mindset

Before today I had never heard of Carol Dweck or Growth Mindset. I first watched her TED talk and learned more about growth mindset. I found it very interesting because I could relate to what she was talking about.

I soon realised after watching her videos that I have a fixed mindset and I need to start being more open and not be so scared to not be good at something from the beginning. I have always been terrified of failing ever since I was young and I never noticed how it effected my learning and ways of thinking.

 What I will take from this would be to try and not focus on the failing aspect and more on the constantly learning and growing as I fail and achieve. During this semester I would love to learn more about growth mindset as I think it would benefit me in many ways. I do think growth mindset is an interesting topic to be learning about and I would love to expand on it.

Introduction post about me

My name is Emma-Louise Byrne, I am nineteen and live in Dublin.
One of my favourite modules I studied last year was visual creativity. I enjoyed it because it was interesting and fun to learn. I learned a lot of new skills that I hadn't had before and also got to improve on my drawing techniques.

One of my biggest accomplishments in the course last year was probably making my web site for web development because I really struggled with coding at the start of the semester. I made a website about the band Fleetwood Mac because they are my favourite band and the website ended up coming out really well and I got a good grade for it.

In my spare time I love to watch tv, one of my favourite tv shows is Brooklyn 99 another tv show I really enjoy is stranger things. They are great shows and I love there storylines.
The best movie I watched this year so far was probably Ladybird it was a beautiful movie with a great storyline which I think a lot of people could relate to. The movie was just so simple but also really fantastic.

I have two dogs at home, one is called Hugo he is a rough haired collie and is five and then I just recently got a puppy over the summer she is only three months old and her name is Sadie she is a mix between a terrier and a German Shepard. They are amazing and always make me smile even when I'm having a not so good day.

Some of my favourite foods are pasta, salad and fajitas. I like making fajitas from scratch they are more flavourful when they are homemade. I also love to bake its one of my favourite hobbies a long with reading.

Music is a big part of my life, I was always surrounded by it growing up. I like playing guitar and listening to new and old music. I don't have a favourite genre because I listen to a lot of them I would find it too hard to pick. My favourite artists include Fleetwood Mac, Bon Iver, The Beatles and Carly Simon.

Workshop 1

In the lecture we worked on a traffic light exercise. I was not familiar with this exercise before hand so it was interesting to learn about and to try and figure out how a four way junction works. I learned how confusing and frustrating it is to try and explain how a junction works, its very different from being a passenger in a car and thinking you have the knowledge of how everything works when really you don't at all. When you are in a car you get into the pattern of not really focusing on everything thats happening you know whats gonna happen and when its gonna happen, but when it comes to explaining it its a completely different story.

I enjoyed working in a group because I got to work with people I had never worked with before. It was a lot at the start because everyone had different ideas about how the traffic lights would work. Everyone was great though we all got a chance to explain our ideas and voice our concerns and our agreements. All of the group members would then give their individual opinion and we would then see who had the best way and understood the exercise. I enjoyed how open everyone was in my group no one was trying to overpower anyone and everyone felt comfortable enough to voice their opinions.

I like that I am writing about my experience because it helps me to reflect on what I learned from the experience. Its also something that I've never really had to do before for another module. I feel it will benefit me as we go along with the module and I will become accustomed to doing it every week. I really enjoyed this exercise because it was something new and gave me an idea of how this module will be and how I will learn new skills.

Favourite Game

My favourite game is Mario kart I have loved it since I was a kid and still occasionally play it to this day with friends. It is a well known popular game that everyone can play which is one of the reasons I like it so much.
